The municipality has a population of 15,955 (31 July 2020)[2] and covers an area of 814.01 square kilometres (314.29 sq mi) of which 28.87 km2 (11.15 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 20.32 inhabitants per square kilometre (52.6/sq mi).

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

The municipality of Artjärvi was consolidated with Orimattila on 1 January 2011.[6]
