Internal selection

Initially, it was decided that Alicja Borkowska (who was a backing vocalist for Poland in the 1994 contest) would become the Polish entrant.[1] However, TVP ultimately announced Justyna Steczkowska as the Polish entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 with the song "Sama".

At Eurovision

On the night of the final Steczkowska performed first in the running order, preceding Ireland. In contrast to Poland's debut entry, the mainstream big ballad "To nie ja!" which had been very successful in the 1994 contest, "Sama" was a moody, introspective piece with very arcane lyrics in which Steczkowska likened herself to a flea. It was predicted that the song would tend to find only minority niche approval, and would not be helped by having been drawn to open the show as the only songs ever to have done well from the opening draw were instant, catchy pop tunes. At the close of voting "Sama" had received only 15 points (the highest a 6 from Iceland), placing Poland 18th of the 23 entries. The Polish jury awarded its 12 points to contest winners Norway.[2]
