Polarity (astrology)

In Western astrology, the polarity of an astrological sign refers to the alignment of its energy. Signs are described as either positive or negative, with various attributes associated to them as a result.[1] The positive and negative signs alternate, starting with Aries as positive and Taurus as negative and continuing this pattern through the list of zodiac signs.[2]

A positive, active, yang, or masculine[3] sign refers to any of the six odd-numbered signs of the zodiac: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius or Aquarius.[4] These signs constitute the fire and air triplicities.

A negative, passive, yin, or feminine[3] sign refers to any of the six even-numbered signs of the zodiac: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, or Pisces.[4] These signs constitute the earth and water triplicities.
