On May 12, 2016, his debut mixtape, August 26th, was released for free digital download. His debut studio album, Stoney, was released on December 9, 2016, and featured the hit singles "White Iverson", "Congratulations" and "I Fall Apart". In 2017, his single "Rockstar" (featuring 21 Savage) peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming his first number one on that chart. In 2018, Post Malone released his second studio album Beerbongs & Bentleys, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 albums chart. "Psycho", featuring Ty Dolla Sign, also reached number one on the US Hot 100 in June 2018, becoming Malone's second number one hit from Beerbongs & Bentleys. "Sunflower", a collaboration with Swae Lee, reached number one on the US Hot 100 in January 2019. Malone's third studio album, Hollywood's Bleeding, was released on September 6, 2019. The album's third single, "Circles", became Malone's fourth number one on the US Hot 100 in November 2019.

- The album debuted with 19,000 pure copies in its debut week in 2016 and sold 4,302 during its second week of release. During 2017 it sold 129,000 pure copies, over 89,000 copies during 2018, 28,000 copies in 2019 and 34,600 copies in 2020.[12][13][14][15]
- During 2018, Beerbongs & Bentleys sold over 343,000 pure copies. It sold in addition 78,000 copies in 2019 and 51,000 copies in 2020.[14][12][24]
- During 2019, the album sold over 312,000 copies and 165,700 during 2020 in the United States.[12][24]
