There used to be a Bismarck tower on the village's highest point, Prudelberg Hill, erected in 1901 when the area was part of Germany. The monument was destroyed after 1945; its base has been preserved. After World War II the region was placed under Polish administration and ethnically cleansed according to the post-war Potsdam Agreement. The native German populace was expelled and replaced with Poles. The herbal bitter Echt Stonsdorfer, still produced in Germany, originated in this village.

As of 2011, the village had a population of 817.[2]
