Summerfield was the name of an early settler who operated a commissary.[2]
It is the location of the Summerfield School, built in 1937, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[3]
Summerfield has one gas station, one grocery store (previously a bar), a tire shop (shut down due to alleged drug activity), and many churches.
