The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Montana
As of December 31, 2019, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) reported 50,552 members in 13 stakes, 126 congregations (87 wards and 39 branches), 50 Family History Centers, one mission, and one temple in Montana.[1]
Stakes are located in Billings (3), Bozeman, Butte, Frenchtown, Glendive, Great Falls (2), Helena, Kalispell, Missoula, and Stevensville.
History
In 1896, the Montana Mission was organized.[2]
Plans to build a temple in Montana were announced in August 1996.[3] About 4,800 people gathered during a spring snowstorm to witness the groundbreaking on March 28, 1998.[4]
In 2017, a new meetinghouse was constructed on the Billings West End, adding to the other six buildings in Billings and six others in surrounding area.[5]
In 2020, the LDS Church canceled services and other public gatherings indefinitely in response to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.[6]
Billings Montana Temple
The Billings Montana Temple was dedicated on November 20, 1999 by church president Gordon B. Hinckley.

Montana Billings Mission
The Montana–Wyoming Mission was created in June 1970 from the North Central States Mission. The mission name was changed to the Montana Billings Mission four years later.
