Background

Voltes V Legacy is a live-action[2] adaptation by GMA Network of the Japanese anime television series Chōdenji Machine Voltes V which was produced by Toei Animation and Nippon Sunrise. The original anime was more commonly known as Voltes V in the Philippines.[1] GMA Network acquired the rights to make a live-action adaptation of the series through Telesuccess Productions, Toei's Philippine-based licensing company.[3] The original anime was first aired in the Philippines in GMA in 1978 with English dubbing[4] but its broadcast was cut short with five episodes remaining when it was banned by then-President Ferdinand Marcos citing "excessive violence".[5] After the People Power Revolution of 1986 which resulted to Marcos' removal from office,[6] the anime was aired again in numerous television networks including PTV and ABS-CBN in 1986, RPN from 1988 to 1990, IBC in 1989, Hero in 2006, and on the original network, GMA in 1999, 2017[5][6] and 2018.[7]

Production

GMA Network hired Riot Inc. for the post-production and visual effects of the series, with approval and supervision from Toei Company.[1][5] Script, characters and creation of the Boazanian language would undergo review and approval by Toei.[8] The video graphic department of GMA Network would be involved the series as well.

Mark A. Reyes was hired as the director of the television series.[1][5] Reyes said that he has been working for the project for at least seven years.[9] Noel Layon Flores serves as the lead visual designer.[10]
