In a November 17, 1988 interview on Late Night with David Letterman, Carlin revealed the title was going to be "What in God's Name Am I Doing in New Jersey?" and when about to explain the title change, Letterman asks about Carlin's childhood, a topic which the interview follows from then on.

After this HBO special, Carlin started wearing black clothing, a theme he continued until his last one.
