Yorkshire Coastliner

Yorkshire Coastliner is a bus operator based in Norton-on-Derwent, near Malton, North Yorkshire, England. It is a subsidiary of Transdev Blazefield.

History

Yorkshire Coastliner was established in January 1990 when AJS Group sold its York based services to Yorkshire Rider business, but retained the longer distance services to Leeds, Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington.[1][2][3] In 1991 it was included in the purchase of the AJS Group by Blazefield Travel.[4][5][6] In January 2006, Yorkshire Coastliner was included in the sale of the Blazefield Travel to Transdev.[7] In August 2008, the York operations of Veolia were purchased.[8]

In February 2012, Yorkshire Coastliner purchased the local bus operations and City Sightseeing operations of York Pullman.[8][9][10]

Services

Yorkshire Coastliner

The Coastliner brand encompasses a group of long-distance services linking the cities of Leeds and York with the towns and villages of Malton, Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale in the North York Moors, as well as the coastal resorts of Scarborough and Whitby.

In 2018, the route of the Coastliner 840 service between Leeds and Whitby was voted as the most scenic bus route in Britain in an online poll.[11]

This service is operated by 13 Volvo B5TL Gemini 3s in a two tone blue livery, offering Free WiFi, USB and wireless power, and next stop information.

York & County

York & Country branded services are operated in and around York, as well as CastleLine (from York to Castle Howard and Malton), and routes 22 and 23 (from York to Boroughbridge, Ripon and Knaresborough).

City Zap

In March 2016, the City Zap service was introduced between Leeds and York with Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TLs transferred from Transdev Harrogate's route 36. It parallels the Coastliner route but does not divert via Tadcaster.[12]

In November 2017, a second City Zap service was launched from Leeds to Manchester, and operated by Burnley Bus Company.[13] This route, however, was withdrawn in July 2018.[14]

Flyer

In 2020, Yorkshire Coastliner won the contract for services out of Leeds Bradford Airport. Flyer took over the former operations of the former Flying Tiger from Yorkshire Tiger that had previously run the services on 30 August 2020. This included a depot in Idle. As well as this new brand, services 737, 747, and 757 were re-numbered to A1 to Leeds, A2 between Bradford, Leeds Bradford Airport and Harrogate, and A3 to Bradford and Shipley. The service is operated by a fleet of 11 Optare Versas in a yellow and purple Livery, offering Luggage space, Free WiFi, USB and wireless power, and next stop information.[15][16]

Route 784

On 5 October 2020, Yorkshire Coastliner route 784 for Skipton, Ilkley, and Otley that had previously been run by First Leeds. Now operating out of Idle alongside Flyer, this service is operated by 2 Optare Versas and 1 Volvo B7RLE Eclipse in the two tone Grey Transdev Go livery, offering Free WiFi, USB and wireless power.[17][18]

Fleet

As at March 2017, the fleet comprised 45 buses.[19]
