Early life and education
Ziegler was born February 18, 1988,[4] He studied art at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design,[5] and graduated with a BFA in Painting from RISD in 2010.[4]
Career
Ziegler is known for both painting and murals, stating that his paintings are mainly inspired by Literature, French Modernism, and Architecture.[6] His art features "repeated motifs of primitive patterns, gigantism, and distortion"[7] and is improvisational rather than carefully planned.[2]
Murals of Ziegler can be seen on buildings around the world such as Tokyo, Los Angeles, London, Italy, and more.[8] Notable murals by Ziegler include a 135 feet (41 m) tall mural on the Cathedral Building in Oakland, California, commissioned by the United Nations Foundation to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter,[9][10][11] and a 15,000 square feet (1,400 m2) mural on a Tillys warehouse in Irvine, California, visible daily to approximately 240,000 commuters on Interstate 405.[12][13] His mural on the factory doors of Italian bicycle manufacturer Cinelli was featured as part of an article on Design Boom.[14]
Ziegler's paintings have been featured at exhibits internationally.[6] Most recently in 2015, he exhibited with French artist Pierre Roy-Camille, shortly after returning from traveling around the world for various exhibitions.[6] In 2015 he also exhibited at an Istanbul Contemporary Art Museum event, being represented in the solo artist section.[15]
In addition to his murals and paintings, Ziegler has designed a line of Vans sneakers,[1][2] and has painted art cars for collectors.[5] He also founded the Arte Sempre clothing company in Mill Valley, the Weekend swap company and web site for coordinating the use of outdoors equipment, and another tech startup.[7]
