1757 English cricket season
The 1757 English cricket season was the 14th season following the earliest known codification of the Laws of Cricket. Details have survived of two eleven-a-side matches between significant teams.
Matches
Two eleven-a-side matches between significant teams are known to have taken place.[1][2]
- 25 July - London v Surrey - Artillery Ground
- 26 August - Chertsey v Hampton - Moulsey Hurst
A match in September between Wirksworth and Sheffield at Brampton Moor, near Chesterfield, is the earliest reference to cricket in Derbyshire. Although cricket is known to have been played in Sheffield since 1751, this may be the earliest indication of the Sheffield Cricket Club from which Yorkshire County Cricket Club eventually evolved.[3]
