Sacramento State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC).[note 2] The Hornets were led by first-year head coach Johnny Baker. They played home games at Charles C. Hughes Stadium in Sacramento, California. The team finished with the first winning record in its four years of existence. Their record was five wins and four losses (5–4, 2–3 FWC). For the season the team was outscored by its opponents 173–174.
