1978 FIFA World Cup qualification – UEFA Group 7

Group 7 consisted of three of the 32 teams entered into the European zone:[1] Czechoslovakia, Scotland, and Wales. These three teams competed on a home-and-away basis for two of the 8,5 spots in the final tournament allocated to the European zone, with the group's winner claiming those spots.

  1. Only 31 of the entered teams actually competed in the qualification tournament: West Germany qualified for the World Cup automatically as defending champions.
  2. This match was played on neutral ground (Anfield) instead of in Wales because of crowd trouble at a European Championship quarter final match at Ninian Park between Wales and Yugoslavia the previous year.
