- Note: Kirk Baptiste had originally won the race from lane one in the time of 20.38, but was later disqualified for taking a couple of steps outside his lane at the beginning of the straight.
- The African team was disqualified as their anchor leg runner dropped the baton in the last metres of the race while fighting with the US team for the first place
