Devoleena Bhattacharjee

Devoleena Bhattacharjee (born 22 August 1985) is an Indian television actress and a trained Bharatanatyam dancer known for portraying Gopi Modi in the Star Plus drama series Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.[3] In 2019, she participated in Bigg Boss 13 as a contestant.[4] In 2020, she reprised her role as Gopi Modi to promote the show in the drama series Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.[5]

Early life

Devoleena Anima Bhattacharjee was born on 22 August 1985 to a Bengali family in Upper Assam.[6][7][1] She lives in Gurugram with her mother and her younger brother.[8]

She did her schooling from Godhula Brown Memorial English High School in Sivasagar, Assam and her higher studies from the National Institute of Fashion and Technology in New Delhi, India.[9]

Career

Initially Bhattacharjee worked as a jewellery designer in Gili India Ltd. in Mumbai.She is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer and an actress. She was first noticed when she auditioned for the dance reality series Dance India Dance 2.[10] Her acting debut was in NDTV Imagine's Sawaare Sabke Sapne Preeto as Bani.[11]

In June 2012, Bhattacharjee was cast as Gopi Modi, a lead character in the Star Plus drama Saath Nibhaana Saathiya after Giaa Manek, who previously played the role, was ousted from the series.[12] In 2014 and again in 2016, she contemplated quitting the show due to the frequent time leaps,[13][14] but she continued to be a part of the show and in June 2017, Devoleena completed five years.[15] In the same month, she underwent spinal surgery for an injury that took place on the show's set in 2013.[16] The series ended on 23 July 2017.[17][18]

In 2019, Devoleena joined as a celebrity contestant in thirteenth season of the reality TV show Bigg Boss.[19] In November 2019, she exited the show owing medical issues.[20]

In October 2020, she joined the cast of the second season of Saath Nibhaana Saathiya for her role of Gopi Modi, and she quit in November.[21]
