Goodger, Queensland

Goodger is a rural locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2016 census Goodger had a population of 187 people.[1]

Geography

Boonenne is a neighbourhood in the north-west of the locality (26.6166°S 151.8°E / -26.6166; 151.8 (Boonenne)).[3]

History

The locality was named after the Goodger railway station on Tarong railway line, after the Goodger brothers (George, James and Howard A.) who were pioneer selectors.[2]

The name Boonenne is a corruption of an Waka word boon-u-inn meaning myrtle tree. The name was assigned as a railway station name by Queensland Railways Department on 25 September 1914.[3]

Stratharlie State School opened on 1915. In 1917 it was renamed Goodger State School. It closed on 10 August 1962.[4]

In the 2016 census Goodger had a population of 187 people.[1]
