Ibrahim Šehić

Ibrahim Šehić (Bosnian pronunciation: [ibrâːxim ʃêːxitɕ]; born 2 September 1988) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Süper Lig club Konyaspor and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

Šehić started his professional career at Željezničar, before joining Mersin in 2011. Two years later, he moved to Qarabağ. In 2018, he signed with BB Erzurumspor. Šehić switched to Konyaspor in 2020.

A former youth international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šehić made his senior international debut in 2010, earning over 30 caps since.

Club career

Early career

Šehić came through Željezničar's youth academy. He made his professional debut against Orašje on 26 May 2007 at the age of 18.[1] He is the youngest captain in club's history, being given the armband at the age of 20.[2]

In June 2011, Šehić was transferred to Turkish club Mersin.[3]

Qarabağ

On 5 October 2013, Šehić joined Azerbaijani side Qarabağ on free transfer.[4] A month later, he made his official debut for the team in a goalless draw against Ravan Baku.[5] Šehić won his first trophy with the club on 7 May 2014, when they were crowned league champions.[6]

In December 2014, he extended his contract until June 2018.[7]

On 19 December 2015, Šehić played his 100th game for the club against Gabala.[8]

Šehić helped the team make their first historical UEFA Champions League appearance in 2017–18 season.[9] On 12 September 2017, he debuted in competition away at Chelsea[10] and stood out during group stage, as he was the goalkeeper with most saves, having made 35 in 6 games.[11]

In May 2018, it was announced that Šehić would leave Qarabağ at the end of season, following the decision not to renew his contract.[12]

BB Erzurumspor

On 6 July 2018, Šehić signed a two-year contract with BB Erzurumspor.[13] On his competitive debut for the club, he kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw against Rizespor.[14]

In spite of BB Erzurumspor's relegation to 1. Lig in May 2019, Šehić decided to stay at the club.[15]

Konyaspor

In August 2020, Šehić moved to Konyaspor on a two-year deal.[16] He saved his net on competitive debut for the team against Gençlerbirliği on 19 September.[17]

International career

Šehić was a member of Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team for several years.[18]

In May 2010, he received his first senior call-up, for friendly games against Sweden and Germany,[19] but had to wait until 17 November to make his debut against Slovakia.[20]

Personal life

Šehić married his long-time girlfriend Merjem in January 2020.[21]

He is a practicing Muslim; along with international teammates Muhamed Bešić, Armin Hodžić, Izet Hajrović, Sead Kolašinac, Edin Višća and Ervin Zukanović he visited a mosque in Zenica during national team concentration.[22]
