John Tottenham, 9th Marquess of Ely
Charles John Tottenham, 9th Marquess of Ely (born 2 February 1943), styled Viscount Loftus from 1969 to 2006, is a Canadian-British peer and member of the aristocracy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland of Irish descent. He succeeded to the title in 2006.
The eldest son of Charles Tottenham, 8th Marquess of Ely, Tottenham received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto where he attended Trinity College. On 27 December 1969 he married Judith Marvelle Porter, daughter of Dr. John Jacob Porter. The couple adopted two children:[1]
- Lord Andrew John Tottenham (b. 26 Feb 1973)
- Lady Jennifer Katherine Tottenham (b. 29 June 1975)
He was the director of admissions at the Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School until retiring in 2004. He succeeded his father in the peerage in 2006.[1]
His sister Lady Ann Tottenham was the second Anglican woman to be elected as a bishop in Canada.
