Khajuraho Airport

Khajuraho Airport (IATA: HJR, ICAO: VEKO) is a regional airport in Khajuraho, Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, India. The terminal is 3 km south of Khajuraho Town, 4 km from Khajuraho and 40 km from the district centre at Chhatarpur. The airport covers an area of 590 acres.[3]

History

The Khajuraho Airport opened in 1978, facilitating tourism to the nearby UNESCO world heritage site temple complex.[4]

In August 2013, the central government announced that the Khajuraho Airport would receive a new terminal.[5] Built at a cost of about ₹90 crore (US$13 million), the building was inaugurated on 23 January 2016 with officials from the state and union governments in attendance.[6][7]

Infrastructure

The airport has one asphalt runway, 01/19, with dimensions 2,274 by 45 metres (7,461 ft × 148 ft).[8] The airport has one terminal with 2 aerobridges.
