Yukari, on the other hand, seems like kind of a dumbass. She tends to go with the flow more often than not, and mostly Yuzuko's flow at that. (Much to Yui's chagrin.) She's a part of a rich family, which the show points out, but doesn't really embellish on. Those of you who expect her to act out a "hime-personality" based on this little tidbit of information are only setting yourselves up for disappointment. Despite her apparent dimness, she's got a talent for picking and following up on the random gags Yuzuko unleashes, and she's almost as good as Yuzuko at coming up with her own.

Chitose is always losing torrents of blood imagining Kyouko and Ayano in suggestive situations, Kyouko is always chasing after Chinatsu, Chinatsu is always gushing on after Yui, Himawari and Sakurako are always having their homoerotic catfights.

Nobunaga's smitten assistant Mitsuhide, for instance, was doomed to kill Nobunaga in real history. And Hideyoshi was destined to avenge Nobunaga's death by forcing Mitsuhide to commit seppuku. Wouldn't you like to see how that played out in Battle Girls' candy-colored, yuri-flavored world? Instead the show flushes all that potential down a sticky-sweet toilet. What do you call that if not brainless?

The wicked glee with Which Hana? exploits Yo as the inspiration for her writing is sputter-worthy at times, but no less so are the actions of her creepily obsessive friend Ume, who kidnaps Hana out of the blue more than once and regularly beats the crap out of Yo for his entirely-innocent associations with her. (That Hana is so obsessed with aggressive, exploitive BL and yet resistant to the yuri analog to what she is writing is the series' greatest irony and perhaps an intended joke unto itself.

Esdeath helps Seryu lament the presumed loss of her mentor Dr. Stylish (since they only know that he went out with his troops and didn't come back) and Esdeath continues to pine for the missing Tatsumi herself...it also pushes hard to promote that yes, even the bad guys have their sensitive, sympathetic sides, such as one scene where Esdeath comforts Seryu (which is then, of course, played for an “emasculate Waver's efforts to act like a man” joke) or Dr.Stylish being shown in a flashback to at least be acting like he genuinely cared about Seryu.

Haruka and Yuu have been friends since middle school, and Haruka at least has feelings that go beyond friendly. It soon becomes apparent that Yuu shares them, and cuteness ensues. My favorite aspect of their relationship is that they are so very comfortable with each other, both emotionally and physically, that even before the kissing starts, they feel like a couple you can get behind.

In spite of the episode's opening hinting at an agenda of interrogating the line between admiration and actual romantic love for an idol, Maina's presentation too neatly skirts those issues for a delivery of simple fantasy. After last episode, the cat's out of the bag as far as the audience is concerned regarding Maina's feelings for Eripiyo, so every interaction she has with her #1 fan now has to be drenched in the dramatic irony of that unspoken love....All the scenes of Maina suppressing her feelings for Eripiyo have already moved straight into the phase where I'm yelling 'Just tell her!' whenever the tension is present on the screen.
