The municipality covers an area of 5 square kilometres (1.9 sq mi), and has a population of 567 (as at 2 October 2006).
Petrovice lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) north-east of Blansko, 24 km (15 mi) north of Brno, and 181 km (112 mi) south-east of Prague.
