The municipality covers an area of 20.25 square kilometres (7.82 sq mi), and has a population of 476 (as at 31 December 2007).

Sedlec lies approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) north-west of České Budějovice and 113 km (70 mi) south of Prague. It is famous for rural architecture (rustic baroque) and area called "blata", which were originally meads and are very rare ecosystem now.
