San Francisco State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC).[note 2] The Gators were led by 9th-year head coach Joe Verducci. They played home games at Cox Stadium in San Francisco, California. The team finished the season as champion of the FWC, with a record of seven wins and three losses (7–3, 4–1 FWC). This was the third straight title for the Gators. For the season the team outscored its opponents 184–146.
