San Francisco State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC).[note 2] The Gators were led by head coach Vic Rowen in his 13th year at the helm. They played home games at Cox Stadium in San Francisco, California. The team finished the regular season with a record of seven wins, two losses and one tie (7–2–1, 3–2 FWC).
