Brit Award for British Album of the Year
The Brit Award for British Album of the Year is an award given by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), an organisation which represents record companies and artists in the United Kingdom.[1] The accolade is presented at the Brit Awards, an annual celebration of British and international music.[2] The winners and nominees are determined by the Brit Awards voting academy with over one-thousand members, which comprise record labels, publishers, managers, agents, media, and previous winners and nominees.[3] The award was first presented in 1977 as British Album of the Year. 1983 and 1984 awarded as highest-selling album.

Achievements
Coldplay and Arctic Monkeys is the biggest winners in this category with three wins each. They are followed by Manic Street Preachers and Adele with two victories. Coldplay lead all performers with six nominations. Elton John, George Michael, and Ed Sheeran leads solo performers with three nominations.
The first woman to receive the award as Best Selling Album was Barbra Streisand in 1983, for Memories. Annie Lennox became the first female act to win the competitive award in 1993, for Diva. Adele is the first female artist and solo act to win the award twice, winning for 21 and 25.
Dave is the youngest artist to win in the category, winning for his debut album Psychodrama in 2020 at the age of 21.
Only one artist have won the award in two consecutive years, Arctic Monkeys. They had wins in the 2007 and 2008.
Only two foreign artists ever have won the award as Best Selling Album, Barbra Streisand and Michael Jackson, winning for Memories and Thriller, respectively.
George Michael, Oasis, Massive Attack, Coldplay, Florence and the Machine, and Ed Sheeran are the only artists to receive three nominations for consecutive albums in this category. Coldplay being the only artists to receive nomination for their first five albums. Additionally, Florence and the Machine is the only act in history being nominated for British Album, with all four studio albums they are released.
To date, there have been only one compilation album to receive the award: Memories.
As of 2020, only four artists have won British Album of the Year more than once: Coldplay (2001, 2003, 2006), Arctic Monkeys (2007, 2008, 2014), Manic Street Preachers (1997, 1999), and Adele (2012, 2016).
