History

Wistia was founded in 2006 by Brendan Schwartz and Chris Savage.[6] The two founders met at Brown University, where Chris was a film student and Brendan was a computer engineering major.[7] Wistia's first client was a medical devices company.[7][8]

Funding

In 2018, Wistia raised $17 million[9][10] worth of debt financing from Accel-KKR, a technology-focused private-equity firm.[6]

Wistia also raised $200,000 in debt in 2009.[11] Previously, the company raised $1.4 million in two rounds from angel investors, in 2008 and 2010.[6] Angel investors include Renesys CEO Ashton Peery.[12]

In 2018, Wistia reported annual revenue of $32M.[9]

Awards and recognition

In 2018, G2 Crowd named Wistia one of the 25 best companies in Boston.[13] In 2017, it was named one of the top company cultures in America by Entrepreneur magazine.[14]
